Research Interests

Charles Bennett, M.D., Ph.D., is a hematologist and oncologist whose research focuses on preventing adverse drug events and improving drug safety. Along with his team, he is studying ways to make drug information more consumer-friendly and creating new training tools for health care providers.

Dr. Bennett has first-hand experience with commercializing technology and starting new companies. In 1998, he founded internationally known RADAR (Research on Adverse Drug events And Reports), which investigates and disseminates information about adverse drug and device reactions (ADRs). His work has been awarded more than $4.2 million in federal research grants and has produced more than 250 publications.

Dr. Bennett is currently affiliated with the Southern Network on Adverse Reactions (SONAR), which consists of co-investigators at fifty medical universities who have assisted with one or more evaluations of serious adverse drug reactions as part of two National Institutes of Health funded pharmacovigilance grants (1998 - 2010 and 2012 - current).
