Pharmaceutics

Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that investigates the process of creating medication that can be used safely and effectively by patients.

Also called the science of dosage form design, pharmaceutics helps relate the formulation of drugs to their delivery and disposition in the body.

There are many chemicals with pharmacological properties, but special formulations are needed to help them achieve therapeutically relevant amounts at the right place and at the right time.

Research Specialties

Pharmaceutics includes the following research areas:

  • preformulation
  • drug delivery and targeting
  • formulation design, engineering, and processing
  • pharmacokinetics

Our faculty in the College of Pharmacy have the expertise in rational design and synthesis of environment responsive nanoparticles for cancer and for central nervous system diseases including Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and targeted therapy.
