Translating Research to Reality
Our goal at the South Carolina Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network is to translate evidence-based cancer prevention and control interventions into practice to address the needs of South Carolina communities. We work to spread the adoption of evidence-based public health interventions to address health disparities, supporting these goals through two avenues: Community Health Intervention Programs, and Projects and Initiatives.
We at the SC Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network also currently support four projects and initiatives: the Farmers' Market and Documentary, a pilot study focused on implementing a farmers’ market at a Federally Qualified Health Center in South Carolina and an accompanying documentary showing the process of establishing the farmers' market; the Practice Enhancement Opportunity Assessment, the purpose of which is to conduct an assessment of interest, readiness and capacity (including opportunity, skill, challenges, facilitating factors, etc.) to conduct research in partnership with Federally Qualified Health Centers; the South Carolina Data Sharing Initiative, a data-sharing plan between the Cancer Prevention and Control Program, South Carolina Primary Healthcare Association, the Federally Qualified Health Centers and the SC Office of Research and Statistics; and the Federally Qualified Health Center Workgroup and Subcommittees, where the Workgroup engages national, regional and local partners to guide relevant public health work, and the two Subcommittees help advance the strong, focused and evidence-based cancer prevention and control work of the SC Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network.
