The University of South Carolina's Center for Research in Nutrition and Health
Disparities at the Arnold School of Public Health

In conjunction with The School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment, and The Department of Environmental Health Sciences invites researchers, staff, students, community organizations, faith-based organizations, policy makers, and community members and volunteers to the  7th Annual Nutrition Symposium.

Background & Purpose: The 7th Annual Nutrition Symposium will bring together researchers, policy makers, community and faith-based organizations, and community members to: provide perspectives on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges in South Carolina as it relates to food justice, healthy equity, and environmental justice; and formulate an action plan for greater collaboration across these sectors for meaningful change.

Students may submit Abstracts for Poster Presentations up until March 15, 2017.

Environmental Justice

Food Security
Nutrition Communication

Student Abstracts will be reviewed, and if selected, will be entered into a poster competition for a chance to win a $100 Visa Gift Card. Please CLICK HERE to review the judging criteria for the student poster competition.

As a submitting author, please certify that all co-authors agree to the submission of the abstract. Posters will be presented on March 31st during the specified time (TBD). Acceptance of abstracts for poster presentations constitutes commitment to be present.

Early-bird Registration: February 14th - February 20th General Registration (i.e. researchers, public health professionals, policy makers) -  $20.00 Community Member/Volunteer- FREE Student- FREE

 

General Registration: February 21st - March 24th General Registration (i.e. researchers, public health professionals, policy makers) -  $25.00 Community Member/Volunteer- $15.00 Student- FREE

 

Onsite Registration: March 31st General Registration (i.e. researchers, public health professionals, policy makers) - $30.00 Community    Member/Volunteer- $15.00 Student- FREE

 

Registration fee is payable with a credit card or check. Reservations will be accepted in the order they are received. To receive Symposium materials at registration, please register by 5:00pm on March 24, 2017. Late registration and walk-ins will be accepted as space allows, and symposium materials will be distributed as available. 

Refund Policy: After your payment is received, it will be processed and cannot be refunded for any reason. Exceptions are handled on a case-by-case basis. 


Hotel Accommodations: If you like the charm of an upscale inn right in the heart of the USC campus, you may want to consider the 

Inn at USC Wyndham Garden. Please call (803) 779- 7779 to make your reservation and indicate that you will be attending the Nutrition Symposium to receive a discounted rate of $125/night If you are interested in staying within walking distance of the Symposium, there are two options you may want to consider- The Hilton Columbia Center Hotel or The Hampton Inn by Hilton Downtown location. Your reservation at either of these two locations must be made by Monday, March 6, 2017.

Symposium attendees will receive a rate of $134.00 for a single or double occupancy in their King or Double Queen standard rooms for a reservation on March 30th and or 31st and departing on April 1st. This rate will be available as space allows. Parking is included in the nightly rate.

Airport Information:
The Columbia Metropolitan Airport is located six miles southwest of Columbia's central business district and is also conveniently located near interstate highways, which are centered in Columbia. These highways include I-20, I-26, and I-77. Major airlines serving the airport include American, Continental, Delta, United, and US Airways.
