About the South Carolina College of Pharmacy

At the South Carolina College of Pharmacy (SCCP) faculty members in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcome Sciences are engaged in various areas of basic and translational scholarship that extend knowledge in and impact clinical therapeutics, professional practice, and pharmacy education.

The college's efforts in this area are often interdisciplinary in nature and impact clinical therapeutics, professional practice, evaluation of drug health policies, and pharmacy education. The Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences provides training in the basic sciences to professional and graduate students.

Training provides fundamentals in the physical and biological sciences that underlie health-related research. Research training in the department encompasses the understanding of disease mechanisms, drug action and toxicity, and the design and development of novel pharmaceutical agents. A National Institutes of Health grant supports the training.

Research efforts in Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences are focused in four areas: Chemical Biology/Medicinal Chemistry; Cancer Prevention and Treatment; Mitochondrial Biology; and Cell Death, Injury and Regeneration.

Departmental research interfaces with research foci of the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina, including Structural Biology, Lipidomics, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Pathophysiology, Oncology, and Nanobiotechnology. >> More
