Faculty Manual
The
USC Columbia Faculty Manual establishes the standards and procedures for
tenure and promotion (see page 20).
Guide to Criteria and Procedures
This guide also known as the
“Goldenrod” is a critical
resource for faculty preparing for the tenure or promotion process.
2008-2009 Tenure and Promotion Calendar
The Tenure
and Promotion Calendar is produced each year by the Provost Office. It
identifies key dates and deadlines for all colleges/schools, departments and
faculty members relating to the Tenure and Promotion process.
Tenure and Promotion Forms
Faculty members submitting materials for
Tenure and Promotion are required to use the
Online Form System.
The forms must be completed and edited online using this system, and then
printed for submission.
A PDF version of the
Departmental Section of the Tenure and
Promotion forms can be downloaded for use by Unit T&P Committee chairs,
Department Chairs and/or Deans.
A PDF version of a full Blank Set
of Tenure and Promotion Forms can also be downloaded.
Unit Criteria
Individual departmental or college/school
Unit Criteria must be reviewed as well as the
University policies identified in this site.
Faculty members hired after 1995 are reviewed
for tenure and promotion using the Unit Criteria in place at the time of their appointment.
For all subsequent promotions, the faculty member shall be responsible for
meeting unit criteria and university standards in effect at the time of their
application for that promotion. Faculty members hired before January 1, 1995 may
choose either the criteria in effect at the time of their hiring or the criteria
in effect at the time of their application for promotion.
Tenure Clock and Post-Tenure Review Table
This table tracks when a faculty member
becomes eligible for Third Year Review, Tenure or Promotion, based on the
initial date of appointment. **Please note that the calendar does not take into
account any changes to a faculty member’s clock, such as a tenure clock
extension.
Tenure and Promotion Workshops and Related
Materials
The University Committee on Tenure and Promotion organizes an
annual workshop, usually during the Spring semester, for faculty members applying for tenure and
promotion. The materials below are from the most recent workshop and contain important
information for candidates and Unit T&P chairs.
University Committee on Tenure and
Promotion
The University Committee on Tenure and
Promotion, also known as the UCTP, reviews all tenure and promotion files and
makes recommendations directly to the President. In addition, the UCTP, working
with the Office of the Provost, has final approval for all revisions to the
statements of criteria and procedures for tenure and promotion submitted by the
various academic units at the University.
