Application and Selection Process

Step 1: Complete Application

Fill out the online application thoroughly with completed essays, information, recommender information, and preferred group interview times.

Step 2: Recommendation Form

You will be asked to provide contact information on your application for the person submitting a professional recommendation on your behalf.  Your recommender will receive an e-mail with the link and log-in information to access the form once you have submitted your application. Be sure to follow up with your recommender to ensure that your application is completed by the due date indicated below.

*Please note: Applications must be submitted online. Applications will not be considered complete until both an online application and recommendation form have been received.

Step 3: Interview

All eligible applicants must must participate in the group interview process where representatives from the University 101 office, instructors, and peer leaders/graduate leaders will evaluate applicants’ skills relative to the peer leader position.

*Students studying abroad in the spring should follow the priority deadline schedule below in order to be interviewed prior to departure and remain eligible to serve the following fall.

Step 4: Training

All selected peer leaders will participate in a one-day spring training workshop and attend a Syllabus Preparation & Team-Building Workshop with their instructor in April.  Both of these events are mandatory as they help UNIV 101 Peer Leaders prepare for their role in the coming semester. All first-time peer leaders enroll in the specialized leadership development course, EDLP 520: The Teacher as Manager, during the semester in which they are serving.

*Students who are studying abroad in spring 2013 must apply by this deadline to be considered for the position for fall 2013. Non study abroad students who apply by this deadline and participate in the early decision / study abroad interview will be eligible for priority selection; these applicants will receive selection notification before winter break.
