Team Building Workshops
This workshop is an important part of the team-teaching initiative that has made University 101 such a success. Team-Building workshops are held every spring and offer instructors the opportunity to work with their teaching partners in a group setting. These workshops feature a group of facilitated scenarios that deal with first-year issues. The teaching teams then, in turn, address resources and cooperative plans of action to address each highlighted scenario.

TEAMBUILDER WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS

FIRST-YEAR READING EXPERIENCE

  • MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! The 15th Annual First-Year Reading Experience will be held on Monday, August 18th, at 8:30am in the Carolina Coliseum. The 2008 text is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.
  • Instructors and Peer/Grad Leaders are expected to lead their class in a small group discussion following the keynote address.
  • Discussion guides will be provided for all readers and will be sent electronically the first week of May with hard copies to follow via campus mail.
  • Books are distributed to first-year students during orientation.
  • The Office of the Provost will host discussion leader preparation sessions in August. All discussion leaders are invited and encouraged to attend.
  • More information regarding the First-Year Reading Experience will be shared as the summer progresses.

SCENARIOS
Each year, we invite our instructional teams to consider a potentially “sticky situation” a first-year student may be faced with. After reviewing the case study, teams discuss the situation and create a plan of support for the hypothetical student. Additionally, identify campus resources that may be helpful in assisting the student(s) in the case. Several examples of these scenarios can be downloaded. (Click here to download)
