Staying in Columbia over Spring Break? There are plenty of destinations within two hours of Columbia, so hop in a car and visit one of these sites for the day. Share your pictures with us using #UofSC

  • Crowders Mountain State Park in King’s Mountain, N.C. – Drive time from Columbia: 1 hour 50 min. – Hike one of the state park’s 11 trails, including a 6.2 mile trail that follows the ridgeline to the South Carolina state line. More in the mood for a picnic? Stop by Sub Factory in King’s Mountain and pick up a few sandwiches before hitting the park.

  • Charleston, S.C. – Drive time from Columbia: 1 hour 45 min. – Take a water taxi and explore Charleston by sea, or take a horse and carriage for a more traditional tour. In the mood for barbeque? Go to Jim 'N Nick's and be sure to get the cheese biscuits.

  • Bee City in Cottageville, S.C. - Drive time from Columbia: 1 hour 30 min. – Learn why honeybees are important at this honeybee farm located near the Edisto River. Bee City also has a petting zoo with animals including llamas, deer, goats and sheep, as well as a café located on-site.

  • U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, N.C. – Drive time from Columbia: 1 hour 30 min – Try your hand at kayaking, whitewater rafting or flatwater paddling. Watersports aren’t your thing? There’s also an obstacle course, zip lining and canopy trails. Refill at the River’s Edge Bar and Grill, located on-site.

  • Tiger World in Rockwell, N.C. – Drive time from Columbia: 2 hours – This big-cat sanctuary and rescue houses more than 70 exotic animals, including cheetahs, tigers and bears, and is open to the public. Guided and self-guided tours and cub encounters are available.
