Come out and join LGBT Programs and the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs for Gaypril 2015, a month of events to increase awareness and understanding of LGBTQ issues.
Quench: Art, Creativity, and Queerness
Thursday, April 9, 12 p.m., Russell House Room 201
So much of LGBTQ+ culture is influenced by art and creative outlets. Come join us
for a fun discussion on how creative forms such as spoken word poetry and visual art
give life and bring awareness to the issues in the LGBTQ+ community. We will be watching
videos and if you are an LGBTQ+ artist and are comfortable, feel free to bring your
own art or poetry to share! Lunch will be served.
Safe Zone Workshop
Friday, April 17, 9 a.m.–12 p.m., Russell House Room 348
Not a Safe Zone Ally yet? Want to learn more about being an ally to the LGBTQ+ community
at the University of South Carolina? Allies are needed because they help to support
and foster safe and inclusive environments for individuals who identify as LGBTQ+
by fighting against homophobia and heterosexism, and the Safe Zone Ally Training workshop
will give you a foundation of knowledge and skills for becoming an active ally in
the Carolina community. Register online.
Trans Advocacy Workshop
Monday, April 27, 3–5 p.m., Russell House Room 309
If you are already trained as a Safe Zone Ally and would like to attend a workshop
to delve deeper into issues of gender identity and expression, the Trans Advocacy
Workshop is the perfect opportunity for you. These workshops are two hours long and
focus on transgender identities and experiences. We do ask that you be a trained Safe
Zone Ally before taking the Trans Advocacy Workshop.
