Six cool classes to take next semester

Class registration is right around the corner. As you make your class selections, do you have room in your schedule for something a little out of the ordinary? Check out these cool classes offered at UofSC this fall.

 1. PEDU 146: Open Water Scuba Diving

Need one credit hour to fill up your schedule? Spend that time getting certified in open water scuba driving. This physical education course teaches safety, emergency procedures, equipment handling, navigation and air consumption techniques that will make you a bonafide scuba diver. The class includes five open water dives.

2. MUSC 113: History of Rock Music

Do you love The Beatles? Led Zeppelin? Metallica? Learn how rock music has evolved over time and check off your Carolina Core  Aesthetic and Interpretive Understanding requirement. Ear plugs may be required.

3. HRTM 362: Wedding Planning and Management

Spend your evenings helping a lucky couple plan their dream day. Students in the popular “wedding class” are responsible for all aspects of the wedding—including finding sponsors who will donate to the zero-budget event. On the big day, students help to make sure everything runs smoothly for the lovebirds. Class is open for priority registration to HRTM and HRMS students, and then anyone can register.

4. ENVR 490: Energy, Society and Space

Calling all tree-huggers! This special topics class is for you. Learn about current developments in sustainability and global environmental issues selected to meet faculty and student interests.

 5. SOST 305 - The Contemporary South

Hey, y’all! What exactly is unsweetened tea? We don’t know. But, more important than a study of the sweetness of the South, this class will investigate Southern regional identity. Cowboy boots are not necessary, but always welcome.

 6. THEA 230 - Makeup Design for Theater and Film

You don’t have to be on stage to be a part of showbiz. The stars need someone to make sure they look flawless when the spotlight hits them. Learn theory and practice of makeup design for theater and film and the importance it has in the visual development of a character.
