September is cause for celebration as the University of South Carolina community gathers to reflect on recent successes and chart a course for the future.

At the annual State of the University address Thursday (Sept. 10), President Harris Pastides will reveal the final tally for the historic Carolina’s Promise $1 billion campaign. The event starts at 10 a.m., kicking off with the Carolina Marching Band and wrapping up with a celebratory cake for everyone.

The president also will outline his priorities for the coming years. In case of rain, the event moves to the Russell House Ballroom.

Also next week, the College of Social Work dedicates its new home in Hamilton College, which underwent a $17.5 million renovation, including the installation of a second floor in the former gymnasium. It will be the first time that the academic faculty and student services for the college have been all together in the same place.

The dedication starts at 10:30 a.m., Sept. 11 at Hamilton College. Speakers include Pastides, Board of Trustees member John von Lehe and alumna Carla Damron, executive director of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

Following the ceremony, tour the building and learn about the structural details and preservation efforts in turning the former naval armory into a college home.
