Summer construction updates

The summer months are a prime opportunity for our facilities department to ramp up projects that would otherwise slow down the hustle and bustle of campus life. While most projects are slated for completion before fall move-in, UofSC faculty, staff and students should prepare to navigate around several active construction areas in the coming weeks:

Greene Street (between Sumter Street and gate)

Projected completion: Mid-August

Goals:

  • Facilitate vehicle access and turnarounds with widened lanes and a planted median
  • Extend bike lanes from the gates westbound toward Sumter Street
  • Create a distinct pedestrian walkway across Greene Street while providing for emergency vehicle access on Greene

During construction, the C-3 parking lot will be closed for daily parking. Parking is available at the C-1 lot off Pendleton Street.

Blossom Street Construction (between Bull and Sumter)

Projected completion: Mid-August

Due to a city of Columbia project on Blossom Street between Bull and Sumter, eastbound traffic on Blossom cannot turn left onto Bull Street. In order to get to the Bull Street Garage, traffic must be traveling westbound and turn right onto Bull Street.

North Energy Plant Expansion (Park Street between Blossom and Devine streets)

Projected completion: Sept. 30

Park Street will be closed between Blossom and Devine for infrastructure upgrades.
