Video: UofSC holds August commencement ceremony

South Carolina Chief Justice Jean Toal told new graduates to consider public service instead of going through life a spectator. Toal, the first woman to serve on the state's highest court and a graduate of the UofSC's Law School, delivered the commencement address on Saturday (Aug. 8).

Also at the ceremony, Ronald A. DeVore, the former director of the Industrial Mathematics Institute at UofSC who is credited with expanding the academic reputation of the university's math department, received an honorary degree of doctor of science.

World War II veteran Dan Brown from Anderson, S.C., received his bachelor of science degree in business administration more than 60 years after he started at UofSC.
