  • National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation means the Center has been recognized for meeting the highest standards of quality.

  • Early Childhood Program in the Department of Instruction and Teacher Education in the College of Education Early Childhood faculty played a leadership role in the Center’s development and continue to assist in its operation.

  • The South Carolina Center for Children's Books and Literacy (SCCCBL) is the renamed expansion of the USC School of Library & Information Science's former BEST Center for book evaluation housed at the State Library in Columbia. A satellite center is located on the second floor of the Children’s Center and serves as a pilot project for program development in a childcare setting.

  • Music Play classes at the University of South Carolina's CHILDREN'S MUSIC DEVELOPMENT CENTER are part of an innovative program designed to develop the music potentials of young children. Music Play activities are offered at no cost to children enrolled at the Children’s Center. Current research performed by Dr. Wendy Valerio, her colleagues, and her graduate assistants, is showing that music is best learned if informal music guidance is begun as early in life as possible.

  • Dance The dance program at the University of South Carolinas has a history of excellence for creative dance for children. Dance program faculty and students regularly lead activities at the Center.

We are pleased to announce the collaboration between the USC Dance Program and the Children’s Center at USC. The current objectives of this collaboration are to teach children movement and fine motor skills through principles of space, effort, shape, and time. These cognitive elements are learned through music and movement and provide our USC Dance Education majors with quality teaching experience. Our primary goal is to offer a superior learning environment for both our dance students and the children involved with the program. This program is a required aspect of our new Dance Education major.

  • Communication Sciences and Disorders – Speech and Hearing Center Diagnostic and therapeutic services are provided to the children by graduate clinicians, with direct supervision by the full-time clinical Faculty of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
