ABOUT THE BOOK

For forty-three years sportscaster Bob Fulton was the "voice" of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and a figure as central to the athletics program as any coach or star player. His memoir serves as a unique opportunity to revisit decades of Carolina sports from the broadcaster's vantage point as he surveys defining moments and larger-than-life personalities from football, basketball, and baseball. Fulton offers his take on coaches like Paul Dietzel, Frank McGuire, Bobby Richardson, Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, Ray Tanner, Dave Odom, and others, as well as dozens of referees and fellow sportscasters. He also gives his candid opinions on the current state and future potential of college sports. On every page this seasoned storyteller proves that he can still spin a colorful yarn and capture magical moments in his own words. This is Bob Fulton, a legend behind the microphone, still calling it like he sees it.

"Mr. Fulton uses his sharp recall of detail and innate ability to tell a story to bring back to life the many outstanding and memorable moments in Carolina athletics history. His book has helped me gain a greater appreciation for Carolina's football history . . . [and] now I better understand why Carolina fans are so fond of Frank McGuire's basketball glory years and how fortunate the Gamecock Nation has been to have one outstanding baseball coach after another. . . All Carolina fans should enjoy this book as much as I do my friendship with Mr. Fulton."—Steve Spurrier, from the foreword
