The Department of Government and International Studies will sponsor a 90-minute public forum Feb. 19 in Columbia to discuss Gov. Mark Sanford's legislative agenda.
The John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Belk Auditorium of the Moore School of Business with the discussion topic, "30 Days In: South Carolina's Legislature Debates Our New Governor's Agenda." It is open to all members of the Carolina community, including USC faculty, staff, and students.
The event, which will be moderated by forum director Blease Graham, a professor of government and international studies, will feature former governor and U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia John C. West as host of the bipartisan panel. The panel includes Sen. Hugh Leatherman, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee; Rep. James Smith, House minority leader; Rep. James Harrison, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee; and former House minority leader Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter.
The Department of Government and International Studies launched the West Forum to promote and promulgate the civic values and political leadership exemplified in the career of Gov. West. The forum will advance understanding of political processes, political leadership, public policy, and civic governance. Following the event, members of the audience will continue the discussion with the panelists and enjoy light refreshments.
