University of Vermont law professor to discuss environmental law Oct. 14

Patrick A. Parenteau, a professor at the University of Vermont Law School and former director of the school’s Environmental Law Center, will speak on “The End of Environmental Law As We Know It: What Comes Next?” at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 14 in Room 428 of Gambrell Hall.
Parenteau

Parenteau will provide an overview of what has happened to environmental laws and policy during the past several years, particularly under the Bush administration, and preview what lies ahead.

Parenteau has served as commissioner of the Vermont Department of Environmental Control, vice president for conservation of the National Wildlife Federation, and regional counsel for Region I of the US. Environmental Protection Agency. He also has served as special counsel to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has been of counsel to the firm of Perkins Coie in Portland, Oregon, and has served as an adjunct and visiting professor at several law schools.

His specialties include environmental policy and litigation, citizens’ suits, endangered species and biological diversity, water quality and wetlands, land use, and property rights and takings. He has regularly testified before Congress and other governmental bodies.
