Thirteen university directors, presidents, and vice presidents from Mongolia visited USC Nov. 13 to learn more about the operation of a modern university.
Mongolia is changing from a Soviet-style university system to an American model, and the visitors hope to gain a better understanding of American curriculum, teaching, and research, said Terry Peterson of the College of Education. They will visit the College of Engineering and Information Technology and the Moore School of Business, among other academic units.
Mongolia is a nomadic society, Peterson said. The issue is how to go from being a nomadic society to a 21st-century society, and education is going to play a big part in that."
The leaders also will listen to a presentation on the Freshman Year Experience and receive a lesson on teaching English in the universities.
