Social work student to intern for Gift of Life Trust Fund

The Central Carolina Community Foundation recently awarded the Gift of Life Trust Fund (GLTF) an Organizational Impact Grant that will fund GLTF’s ongoing internship program for South Carolina social work students and further GLTF’s efforts to provide emergency help to transplant patients.

The $4,500 grant will fund a position for an intern who will focus on GLTF’s financial assistance program for South Carolina transplant patients.

In addition to GLTF’s public education efforts to promote organ and tissue donation in South Carolina, the organization provides limited financial assistance to South Carolinians who are navigating the transplant process. GLTF is currently in the process of working with USC to identify a graduate student in the College of Social Work to fill the internship. The intern will be responsible for assisting in the intake, assessment, and processing of cases referred to the organization from social workers at regional transplant centers and dialysis clinics.

“GLTF is excited about the positive impact this award will have on our ability to effectively administer our Patient Assistance Program and to provide a South Carolina graduate student with invaluable hands-on experience,” said GLTF Executive Director Constance C. Rinehart. “We are grateful to the Central Carolina Community Foundation for supporting this initiative and look forward to a successful partnership on behalf of South Carolina’s transplant patients.”
