Approximately 200 students, faculty, and staff from USC Spartanburg will participate in the 2004 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Jan. 24.
From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., volunteers will canvas Spartanburg, performing acts of community service to benefit the following agencies: Alive and Well Animal Shelter, Bethlehem Center, Charles Lee Center, Dominion Family Services, Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, SAFE Homes/Rape Crisis Coalition, Southeastern Childrens Home, SPACE, and Stop the Violence.
This is a fabulous opportunity for our campus community to honor the late Dr. King and to lend a helping hand to those in need in our very own community, said Carly Schiano, director of student life at USC Spartanburg.
The volunteers will gather in the Campus Life Center on the USC Spartanburg campus at 8:30 a.m. to receive instructions and gather supplies. Mary Thomas of the Spartanburg County Foundation will make brief remarks on the importance of giving back to the community. The annual project is sponsored and organized by the student organization IMPACT.
