Yard of Cinema 4: How to Fix the World will take place April 2. The featured artist will be Jackie Goss, assistant professor of film and electronic arts at Bard College. Attendees will meet this New York-based filmmaker and view videos about Soviet science, cloning experiments, and miraculous language.
The event, begun last year by Joe Milutis, art, begins at 8:30 p.m. with refreshments and a chance to talk with the featured artist. Videos begin at 9 p.m.
Goss's videos mix new animation techniques with more obsolete imaging practices. At once documentaries and highly constructed fictions, Gosss videos span the gap between scientific knowledge and intuitive thought, historical fact and personal obsession. Past videos have screened at the New York Video Festival, Cinematexas, Chicago Independent Documentary Film Festival, Women in the Directors Chair, Rotterdam International Film Festival, New York Underground Film Festival, and many other national and international venues. Her work is distributed by the Video Data Bank,
Chicago.
This event is co-sponsored by WIPP (Women in Production Professions).
