| The 20th Annual Conductors Institute, under the direction of Donald Portnoy, will convene at the Koger Center for the Arts June 519.
Institute participantswho come from all over the United States and worldwideget tutorials served up by conductors and composers who have vast experience in the academic, commercial, and professional worlds of music. The Institute offers daily podium time to every individual in the program, focusing on the details of conducting and the nuances that give conductors an opportunity to enhance their skills and achieve a greater sense of command with their orchestral forces. Participants will be in sessions in Columbia and in other adjunct programs: a one-week opera workshop during the opening of SPOLETO USA in Charleston, SC; a two-week institute in Beijing/Harbin, China in July; and a two-week institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina in August.
This year's Institute will feature guest conductors and composers from across the United States, including Manuel Alvarez, Gordon (Dick) Goodwin, Victoria Bond,
Peter Jaffe, Samuel Jones, and Paul Vermel.
Sessions of Conductors Institute in Columbia are free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m.12 p.m. and from 1 p.m.3:30 p.m. June 7 through 18. These sessions are held in the auditorium of the Koger Center at 1051 Greene Street (located at the corner of Assembly and Greene streets).
