New chair, vice chair elected to Board of Trustees

Herbert C. Adams of Laurens has been elected chairman of USC's Board of Trustees, and Barnwell attorney Miles Loadholt was elected vice chairman, effective Oct. 22.

Adams, who represents the state's eighth judicial circuit, has been the board's vice chairman since 2000. He succeeds outgoing chairman Mack Whittle of Greenville.

"The opportunity to serve as chairman of Carolina's Board of Trustees is a true honor for me, particularly because the University and its many outstanding people have had a tremendous impact on my life," said Adams, who chairs the board's Ad Hoc Committee on Advancement. "The University has excellent leaders in place, and I look forward to working with all of them to make Carolina an even greater University and South Carolina a better state for all our citizens."

Adams, a consulting agent with Correll Insurance Group in Laurens, earned his undergraduate degree in business management from USC in 1964. A board member since 1984, he also serves on the Executive Committee and, as chairman, is an ex officio member of all committees.

Loadholt, a board member since 1996, earned his business degree from USC in 1965 and his law degree, also from USC, in 1968. He chairs the Buildings and Grounds Committee and is a member of the Intercollegiate Activities Committee, the Student-Trustee Liaison Committee and the Ad Hoc Committee on Advancement.
