Robot-building, new technology, writing, and crime-solving are part of the Carolina Master Scholars Adventure Series, which is offering 13 summer programs for students in grades 612.
The series, coordinated by USCs Office of Academic Enrichment and Conferences, will begin June 5 and continue through the week of July 10. The series gives academically gifted middle- and high-school students the opportunity to explore interests in areas such as science and medicine, information technology, forensic science, art, African-American history, robotics, business, writing, law, and criminology.
Courses are taught by USC faculty and are designed to complement and exceed standard middle-school and high-school courses. Each course includes a Sunday orientation, and instruction runs MondayFriday. Students have the option of staying on campus or commuting daily.
Students who complete three or more courses before high-school graduation earn the designation of Carolina Master Scholar and will be added to USC's database for admissions materials.
Applications postmarked by May 6 will receive discounts. Through an essay contest sponsored by The State newspaper, limited scholarships will be available. The contest will run through April 8. Competitive admission criteria apply.
