| Les Sternberg, dean of USCs College of Education, was one of four speakers at a U.S. Senate briefing on teacher education June 15 in Washington, D.C. The briefing, titled "Teacher Education Reform: 'No Child Left Behind' meets the Higher Education Act," was sponsored by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE).
Sternberg, whose talk focused on the teacher-education component of the 1965 Higher Education Act, joined John Webb of Princeton University, Russell French of the University of Tennessee, and Robert Yinger of Baylor University.
Among the senators sponsored of the meeting were Edward Kennedy, Massachusetts; Chris Dodd, Connecticut; Jeff Bingaman, New Mexico; Jack Reed, Rhode Island; Mike Enzi, Wyoming; Lamar Alexander, Tennessee; and Mike DeWine, Ohio. Also part of the briefing was the distribution of an AACTE monograph citing USC's College of Education as having one of the nation's 20 most outstanding professional development school networks.
