| As the University of South Carolina Lancaster begins its forty-sixth year of service to the area, the Board of Trustees of the Educational Foundation of USC Lancaster has decided to establish a Board of Visitors. The board will hold its first annual meeting Nov. 30.
This is something we have been thinking about for some time; it represents an important step in the maturing of our college, stated Charles Bundy, president of the Educational Foundation of USC Lancaster.
Members of the board will learn more about USC Lancaster and will meet with members of the Lancaster County Commission for Higher Education, the Educational Foundation of USC Lancaster, area legislators, faculty, staff, and students.
The purpose of the Board of Visitors is to broaden the profile of the campus within the six counties that the campus serves; those counties include Lancaster, Chester, Chesterfield, Kershaw, Fairfield, and York.
Members of the board, who were nominated by the Educational Foundation of USC Lancaster, include: Richard Blackmon, Betty Lou Griffith Blackwell, Daryl Bowie, Art Collier, Janice Dabney, Robert H. Edwards, Francis Faile, Jr, Tony Gilreath, Coreen Khoury, Arthur Lathan, Peggy Little, Glenn McFadden, Mick Mulvaney, Jerry Pressley, H.E. Purser, Joe Shaw, Stanley Smith, and Lou C. Thomas.
The board will meet once or twice a year at USC Lancaster to hear reports of campus operations, to meet with faculty and students, and to learn of any special initiatives at the campus. The board may also provide suggestions for improvements.
Nothing is more important to this University than the support of our community. This special group of community leaders will help carry our message to all six counties that USC Lancaster serves, said John Catalano, dean of the campus.
