'Rock On Carolina:' Celebrate Homecoming Nov. 3-4

Homecoming weekend, set for Nov. 3-4, will offer fun-filled activities for alumni, students, and the public, including the annual Homecoming parade, reunion party, Cockfest pep rally, and game-day party.

This year's theme is "Rock on Carolina," which celebrates the music that binds student classes, from the class of 1956, which will celebrate its 50th reunion this year, to the class of 2010, which entered the University this fall.

Homecoming weekend will begin with the parade from 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 3. More than 15 floats and the marching band will travel along the parade route. The parade will begin on Greene Street at the Colonial Center, wind along Pickens, Pendleton, and Sumter streets, and end at the intersection of Assembly and Greene streets. Viewing stands and judging will be in front of the Horseshoe on Sumter Street.

Evening activities Nov. 3 will include the Homecoming Reunion Party for alumni and Cockfest, which is open to the public.

Alumni can attend the reunion party, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The event will feature cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, alumni awards presentations, and dancing and music by Dick Goodwin and his Orchestra, '88 Rewind, and The Educators.

Tickets are $37.50 per person and are available through the Carolina Alumni Association or online at www.carolinaalumni.org.

Cockfest, the Homecoming pep rally, will begin at 8 p.m. Nov. 3 at Williams-Brice Stadium. The event will feature student skits, music, comedians Randy and Jason Sklar, and cheerleaders to energize the crowd for Saturday's game against the University of Arkansas. The Sklars, identical twins, host ESPN Classic's show Cheap Seats and have performed on Comedy Central, HBO, and late-night talk shows. Admission is $5 for the public and can be purchased at the door and free for University students, faculty, and staff with University ID.

On Nov. 4, Homecoming festivities will continue with the game-day party, to be held at the National Guard Armory on Bluff Road two hours before the football game. The party, which is open to the public, alumni, and students, will feature football fare and music by The Men of Distinction. Tickets are $12.50 and are available through the Carolina Alumni Association or online at www.carolinaalumni.org.
