The University's 52nd-annual Faculty-Student Art Auction will be held April 4 at Capstone House.
The popular annual event will begin with a preview party in the Campus Room of Capstone House at 6 p.m. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be provided. The auction will begin at 7 p.m. The art will be on public display beginning at 1 p.m.
More than 100 works of art--including sculpture, photography, paintings, and ceramics--made by art faculty and students will go to the highest bidders.
This year's auction will feature an artist proof by USC graduate and internationally-recognized artist Sigmund Abeles. Born in 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, Sigmund Abeles grew up in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Abeles' figurative works have been critically acclaimed, and Abeles has been a member of the prestigious National Academy of Art since 1990. His works are in permanent collections of leading institutions including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Modern Art. His intaglio print that will be auctioned was executed while working with the USC art department's atelier in 2006.
Guest auctioneers for the 2007 auction will be President Andrew Sorensen, Thorne Compton, and Larry Hembree. The auction is sponsored by the Department of Art in USC's College of Arts and Sciences. Proceeds from the auctioned works are divided between the artists and the USC art scholarship and gallery fund. Credit cards and checks will be accepted. Last year's event raised more than $14,000.
