Ken Burns documentary to preview at USC Upstate Sept. 12

ETV will air a preview of the new Ken Burns documentary series, The War, at USC Upstate at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Tukey Theater.

The seven-part documentary series, directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, explores the history and horror of the Second World War from an American perspective by following the fortunes of so-called "ordinary" men and women who get caught up in the greatest cataclysm in human history.

Six years in the making, this epic 14-hour file, reminiscent in scope and power of Burn's landmark series The Civil War, focuses on the stories of citizens from four geographically distributed American towns: Waterbury, Conn.; Mobile, Ala.; Sacramento, Calif.; and the tiny farming town of Luverne, Minn.

Keith David narrates The War, which also features first-person voices read by some of America's greatest actors, including Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson, Eli Wallach, Robert Wahlberg, Carolyn McCormack, and Adam Arkin.

The War begins airing on PBS Sept. 23.

The USC Upstate preview is free and open to the public, but attendees must register to attend in advance by calling 1-800-922-5437 or going to www.myetv.org/warsignup.
