Online alcohol-education program now available to University undergraduates

Carolina students can now get valuable lessons online through MyStudentBody.com's alcohol-education program. The program, sponsored by Student Life, is offered free to all undergraduate students and is accessible by visiting www.sa.sc.edu/adp.

The program uses online quizzes, articles, stories, and other tools to teach students about responsible alcohol consumption, as well as the dangers associated with high-risk drinking and alcohol misuse. Allowing students to use these resources privately and on their own time is a key to making educational efforts about alcohol effective, said Larrell Wilkinson, director of Alcohol and Drug Programs.

"The program will help us to outreach to students where they are: in the residence halls, in the academic buildings, in the apartment complexes, even at home with their parents. They can use this resource wherever they have Internet access," Wilkinson said.

The MyStudentBody.com program complements other tools the University uses to help students make responsible choices about alcohol and other drugs. The program is part of an array of efforts, said Jerry Brewer, associate vice president for student life and development.

"We are hopeful the online capability of MyStudentBody will reach more students by providing 24/7 educational access," Brewer said.
