Donna Richter, a professor and former dean of the Arnold School of Public Health, has been named the 2008 recipient of the Martha Kime Piper Award
The award, named for the first woman president of a public higher education institution in South Carolina, is given annually to recognize a woman with an outstanding record of advancing and supporting women in higher education.
The Piper Award is presented by S.C. Women in Higher Education, a statewide organization that is part of the American Council on Education's Office of Women in Higher Education. All academic institutions across South Carolina nominate individuals. President Sorensen nominated Richter for the award, which was presented March 1 at Clemson University.
