Group Visit Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a “Group Tour”?
This is for large groups of students who are visiting campus together. Large groups range from 10-60 prospective students, although groups of 50 or less will have a better campus tour experience. Priority is given to high school students in grades 10 - 12 or groups of college transfer students. Group tours can also be arranged to include an information session with an admissions representative.

At various times during the year we may be able to accommodate middle school students, but please contact our office at (803) 777-0169 for information. We also would like to encourage you to inquire about our self-guided tour.

Do you conduct group tours on the weekend, or over holidays?
No. A tour during the week when classes are in session will provide prospective students with a much better perspective on life as a student at the University of South Carolina.

How long do the tours last?
Our group tours last approximately 1 hour.

Who gives the tour?
The tour is given by trained students who are able to give the history and current uses of university buildings, inform visitors of university traditions, and provide their own views and perspectives of the University of South Carolina student experience.

Will we get to see a residence hall?
No. You are welcome to stop by our mock dorm room located in the Visitor Center. You are also welcome to visit our virtual housing tour at www.housing.sc.edu.

Do we have to make a reservation for the tour?
Yes. Group tour reservations are mandatory.

Can an admissions information session be included?
Yes. We may be able to schedule an opportunity to meet with an admissions representative before or after the tour. It is required to let our office know if you would like an admissions session. The admissions information session lasts about 30 minutes.

How can I request a group tour?
You may request a group tour by calling the Visitor Center at (803) 777-0169.

Can I change the day or time of a Group Tour?
We will try to accommodate your request depending on availability. Please call (803) 777-0169 to see if your request can be honored.

What if it is raining/planning to rain on tour day?
Walking tours will still proceed if the rain is light to moderate. Walking tours will not go out in severe weather or if there is a chance of severe weather in the near future.

What should I wear for the tour?
Visitors on walking tours should wear casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes are suggested. If rain is in the forecast, don’t forget an umbrella or poncho. You can click here to check Columbia weather.

Can we get a campus map and directions?
Booking your group tour at least four weeks in advance will allow us to send you a confirmation email that includes your itinerary, driving directions, and parking instructions.

What about parking?
Parking is based on the size of the group. You should consult your confirmation email for directions concerning parking.

As a group leader, what should I bring?
You should bring your copy of the itinerary and parking information so you know where to park and when to arrive.
