Web Presence Compliance Reminder

In a memo to vice presidents, chancellors, deans, and directors this past fall, I directed that all academic and administrative areas take immediate steps to bring appropriate Web sites into full compliance with the University's new Web Presence guidelines. I asked that site migration plans be in place by January 15, 2004, and full implementation of that plan be accomplished by April 15, 2004.

If you have not already done so, please e-mail your plans immediately to the Web Presence Committee at webpresence@sc.edu. The committee will do its best to answer questions and consult on approaches to your Web site if you so wish.

Detailed Web Presence guidelines and examples can be found at www.sc.edu/webpresence. It is critical that all areas construct their sites using the official USC template files rather than re-engineering or re-creating the format. Much effort has been put into testing the template files for use with multiple browsers and for compliance with certain ADA issues. The template package may be downloaded from the Web Presence site.

All revised Web sites must be reviewed and approved by the Web Presence Committee prior to going live. Please allow time for this review process in your planning.

Much progress has already been made—a majority of college and schools sites have already migrated to the new Web look and feel. We look forward to full compliance by the end of the academic year. Thank you once again for your cooperation.
