A primary photographic feature of the University’s Web Presence is the use of the “fade” style. This technique is applied to the large horizontal image in the portal template and can be seen on many of the University’s main Web pages.
The fade can be applied to an image by using the Adobe PhotoShop files included in the template. The file incorporates three layers (background layer, image layer, and fade layer) to help designers create a final 570 x 165 pixel image that can be saved and linked to appear on the final page. Simply select your image (at least 570 px. x 165 px., 72 dpi, RGB), copy and paste it into the image layer, move the image until the fade falls where you want it, and then save for Web. Hint: Do not position the lightest part of the fade over the focal point of your image.
