The University of South Carolina incorporates several key advising platforms into
the advising workflow. Advisors who are new to the Columbia campus or advisors who
are requesting additional or renewed access should follow the steps below.

The EAB Advising Platform (known as Navigate on the Columbia campus), populated by
a nightly feed of student data from Banner, provides a simple overview of key student
information; success marker notifications; risk scoring for early intervention; a
full transcript view and incoming student test and placement scores; easy list development
based on hundreds of student attributes (GPA ranges; credit completion percentages;
specific courses; participation in certain groups such as Honors, athletics, or sorority/fraternity;
transfers; etc); a major matcher feature integrated with hiring and salary data provided
by O-Net; easy referrals to support offices across campus who will reach out to the
student and then close the loop with the advisor who made the referral. It is also
the primary scheduling software on USC Columbia's campus. The Education Advisory Board
launches new releases of platform functionality, developed with direct feedback from
platform users, on a monthly basis.
DegreeWorks aids students and advisors in monitoring student progress toward degree
completion and assists students in choosing the most appropriate courses to fulfill
degree requirements. Integrated with student academic records in Banner, DegreeWorks
matches student record data (courses, hours, grades) with degree requirements categorically
to identify which courses meet degree requirements and which courses need to be completed.
DegreeWorks also allows users to run What If and Look Ahead scenarios to both show
how projected courses will apply to a student’s major and apply a student’s course
history to another program of study.
Beyond The Classroom Matters (BTCM) is a supplemental student information system for
records of student involvement in experiential and engaged learning programs. Each
student’s records in the system are collectively called My UofSC Experience and are available to new freshmen and new transfer students entering Fall 2018 and
subsequent terms, and their advisors. These additional records provide a more comprehensive
view of a student’s college experience and may be useful for advising conversations.
Providing these records is intended to help advisors engage students in reflection
on their learning in college – within and beyond the classroom - and in planning for
future purposeful involvement to help them achieve their educational goals.
