Activity Area Rules

The following rules and etiquette guidelines can help you prevent injury, enjoy your experience, and protect yourself and others.

  • A physical CarolinaCard is required to access Campus Recreation facilities
  • Face coverings are required when moving throughout the building and when physical distancing is not possible
  • Staff and student employee direction/guidance must be followed at all times.
  • Maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance (10-12 feet when possible) from all patrons, student employees and staff.
  • The only equipment permitted in the building are water bottles, swim googles/cap, bath and or sweat towel, and small personal fitness items (yoga mat, jump rope, weight belt, lifting straps, etc.)
  • Reduced capacity will be enforced in the majority of our spaces and for many activities.
  • Equipment must remain in place and should not be moved.
  • Utilize red floor-marked boxes for personal work-out space.
  • Patrons should disinfect any equipment before and after use. Sanitization stations will be available throughout the facility.
  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older to use the weight and fitness rooms.
  • Appropriate athletic attire is required in Campus Recreation Weight Rooms.  Closed-toe, athletic footwear is required. Clothing or items that may injure others, or damage equipment, must not be worn. 
  • Patrons should use extreme caution in lifting weights to avoid potential injuries to themselves or others.
  • All weight training should be performed in a controlled, safe manner. Dropping, slamming, or bouncing of weights is prohibited.
  • Use of equipment other than its designed function is prohibited. 
  • All equipment must remain in the area it was placed.
  • Clips are required on plate loaded barbells.
  • DO NOT drop weight plates, weight stacks or dumbbells.
  • All equipment must be returned to appropriate racks when finished. 
  • The use of chalk is prohibited.
  • Weights and bars of any kind should not lean up against mirrors.
  • Users should immediately report any injury or facility equipment irregularity to the staff member on duty. Patrons are responsible for checking equipment prior to each use. Broken or damaged equipment must be reported immediately.
  • Please wipe all touched surfaces before and after use with disinfectant.
  • Improper behavior is prohibited and subject to immediate disciplinary actions. 
  • Facility is not responsible for lost/stolen items
  • Intermittent clean-up may occur at any time during operations for safety/sanitary reasons.
  • Patrons unfamiliar with the operation of any of the exercise machines should contact the staff member on duty for assistance.
  • Registration
    • 25-minute reservations through will be utilized for 6 people on each half court (Courts 3A, 3B, and 4A).
    • You can reserve a spot 48 hours before the reservation timeslot.
    • A student employee will be stationed between Courts 3 and 4 checking people in for reservations, checking out basketballs, and ensuring policies are being followed.
    • If you make a reservation and cannot attend your reservation, please click "unregister" to allow others to fill your spot. Please do not no-show your reservation. If you no-show for your reservation, you will be restricted from making basketball reservations for the remainder of the week. If you accumulate 3 no-shows in one semester you will lose all privileges to make reservations for the remainder of the semester.
  • Rules
    • Masks are required at all times due to possibility of close contact.
    • No outside equipment is permitted. Basketballs will be provided by Campus Recreation.
    • Reservations are for 25 minutes only.
      • Please respect everyone’s time and end game at the buzzer, no overtime or next shot wins.
    • Shirts and athletic shoes are required.
    • No spectators allowed.
    • Players can switch baskets, but each basket can only have a max of 6 players at any time.
    • Players can only sign-up for one timeslot per day
      • If there is room available, players can be added to the next slot.
  • Please follow posted direction on indoor track.
  • Joggers - Outside Lane.
  • Walkers - Inside Lane.
  • Spectating or loitering on the track is prohibited.
  • Spiked shoes prohibited.
  • Stretching is not allowed on the track.
  • Facility is not responsible for lost/stolen items.
  • Face coverings
    • Face coverings are required when checking-in and moving throughout the pool deck.
    • Face coverings are not required when sunbathing in approved areas.
    • Face coverings are not required when in the water and physically distanced.
    • Patrons are recommended to have a dry location (bag/tupperware) to store masks.
  • Cleaning
    • 5-minute cleaning breaks occur between reservations.
    • Cleaning supplies will be available for patrons to clean their lounge areas before/after their use.
    • Lounge areas will not be cleaned by staff if personal items are kept on chairs.
  • Reservations Required on
    • 55-minute reservations, limit of two user-created reservations.
    • No-shows will be contacted after two missed reservations.
  • Sunbathing
    • Permitted in 36 marked locations on pool deck (18 on either side of pool).
    • Lounge chairs must stay in marked locations.
    • Patrons must remain physically distant within marked locations.
  • Pool Usage
    • Swimming lanes are first come, first served.
    • Face coverings are required until in the water and prepared to swim.
  • Personal Items
    • UofSC Campus Recreation staff are not responsible for items left within pool deck areas during or between reservations.
