Come mountain biking with ORec at Harbison State Forest! This trip is for those new to mountain biking and includes your transportation to Harbison, mountain bike, helmet, and a trip leader who will show you the basics of mountain biking and guide the group through miles of trails.

Harbison State forest is a hidden gem just 20 minutes from campus and this trip is scheduled from roughly 9am-12noon. You’ll need to bring water, snacks, and active clothing.

Would you like to try out mountain biking at your own pace? Already love mountain biking, but the bike stayed home? Meet us at Harbison State Forest from 1-5pm to take out one of our bikes.

We’ll transport the bikes and a helmet to the trailhead for you and take it back to campus when you’re done at or before 5pm. Harbison does have a $5/car parking fee for when you arrive.

Join Outdoor Recreation on a Fall Break backpacking trip to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This trip is great for beginning backpackers or those looking to skip all the planning. We’ll be spending two nights on the trail passing several waterfalls and camping beside mountain streams over three days in early fall. You’ll get to learn basic backpacking skills and how to cook in the backcountry. We provide food, gear (including shelter, backpack, and sleeping bag), transportation, and trip leaders.

You’ll need to have hiking shoes/boots, warm hiking clothes, rain jacket, personal water bottles, etc. A mandatory pre-trip meeting will occur the week before the trip to cover details, questions, and what specifically to bring. Total mileage is approximately 13 miles.

Come mountain biking with ORec at the FATS trails near Augusta! This trip is for those looking to check out a new mountain biking location, spend the whole day riding, and includes your transportation, mountain bike, helmet, and trip leaders who will guide the group through miles of trails.

The FATS trail system is a Forest Service mountain biking site near North Augusta, SC. You’ll need to bring water, snacks, and active clothing.

The highest point in South Carolina is Sassafras Mountain. This trip is your chance to hike to the top to experience the views and claim the high point of our state! This is a beginner friendly all day trip, but is comprised of an uphill 3 mile hike (and 3 miles back down). Included in the trip is transportation and trip leaders to lead the group to the top.

You’ll just need to bring water, lunch, and comfortable hiking shoes and clothes.

Join ORec in an easy hike to three waterfalls in the Dupont State Forest in North Carolina. This all day trip will cover about 5 miles of hiking and provide good picture opportunities of the three waterfalls. Some of the famous ORec apple cider will also be provided to warm up along the route.

Transportation, warm drink, and trip leaders are all included in the trip price. You’ll just need to bring water, lunch, and comfortable hiking clothes and shoes.

How to sign up for a trip

  1. Sign in to Garnet Gate using your UofSC login information.
  2. Go to the Campus Recreation page and select your trip.
  3. RSVP for your selected trip.
  4. Follow the link on the RSVP to pay.

 

What You Need to Know

  • Trips are open to all UofSC students, faculty and staff.
  • All trips will only require beginner skill levels, unless otherwise noted.
  • Basic health history form will be required for trip participants.
  • No-show participants will not be eligible for a refund.

Refunds

You must cancel at least 7 days prior to the trip to get a refund. After that, no refunds will be given.

We will give you a full refund if the trip is canceled due to low registration, weather or other extenuating circumstances. No-show participants will not be eligible for a refund.
