Books are tools for recording and transmitting ideas, information, images, and stories. Come explore diverse techniques, materials and processes in order to construct your own unique handmade books. Examine the works of book artists, ideas and materials that are important to the contemporary practice of handmade books.
You will design your own book covers and pages by designing paste papers, gelli printing, and through tie-dye. Prompts will be used to inspire creative writing both in and outside of the book. We will start with simple books and progress to more complex book binding techniques. Book designs will include pamphlet, accordion, pop up, and Coptic stitch.
