Adventures in Filmmaking

In this exciting hands-on class, students will dive into the world of filmmaking. Through a mix of storytelling, creativity, and technical skills, you'll learn how to bring your ideas to life on screen.

Throughout the course, you’ll explore the key aspects of filmmaking, including:

  • Storytelling: How to create a compelling story that will grab your audience’s attention.
  • Creating Images: Learn how to frame and light scenes
  • Film: Learn about early film, make creative colorful films 16mm films
  • Make a short film: Using smart devices and editing apps like capcut, students will create a short film

You'll work together in teams to create your own short films, experiment with different genres, and showcase your finished projects to classmates. No matter what area of filmmaking you’re interested in, this class will give you the tools to express yourself creatively and understand the art of filmmaking!

By the end of the course, you'll have made your own short film and learned the skills needed to make a movie.

Meet Your Instructor

 

Carleen Maur

Carleen Maur is a professor and filmmaker. Her films have been screed at film festivals across the globe including, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Engauge Film Festival and Crossroads. Her work has awards from both Mannheim Arts and Film Festival and Thomas Edison Film Festival (formally Black Maria). In addition to festivals her work has been invited to screen in collaboration with institutions such as the Museum of Sex, the Filmmakers Coop and the Rhode Island School of Design. Reviews of her films have been published in Cinemascope Magazine and Traverse Vidéo’s digital catalog.

In additional to screenings, Carleen has curated screenings and presented research with institutions such as Northwest Film Forum, University of Amsterdam, Outting the Past and through Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT).
