USC Leadership Week Book Drive

Support the United Way of the Midlands Reading Consortium

The Office of the Provost, Center for Teaching Excellence, Leadership and Service Center and Student United Way of USC are hosting a book drive for the United Way of the Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC) during USC Leadership Week (January 29 – February 3, 2018). The MRC is collecting books for elementary school kids to take home for the summer to prevent reading loss. During the "summer slide" kids can lose nearly 25% of what they learned over the past year.

During the book drive, the Carolina Community will rally in support of education and childhood literacy by donating new English and Spanish children’s books for grades K-2. Books collected during the drive will be donated to kids for free.

Get Involved – Ways to Donate Books or Contribute Monetary

There are three ways to donate books or make a monetary contribution to support the United Way of the Midlands Reading Consortium.

  • Monetary donations are accepted online using the MRC Summer Reading Book Drive form. When making an online monetary donation online, please list in the organization box “USC Leadership Week”.
  • The second way to support the United Way of the Midlands Reading Consortium is by purchasing books online using the Gift Ideas for MRC Book Drive list through Amazon. The books will be shipped to the United Way once the purchase occurs online. Please mention in the gift message “USC Leadership Week.”.
  • The third way is to purchase books off of the United Way of Midlands Reading Consortium Wish List. Books purchased can be dropped off at the Center for Teaching Excellence from 8:30am-5pm located in the Thomas Cooper Library, Room L511 or the Leadership and Service Center from 10am-2pm located in the Russell House University Union, Suite 227.
