23 faculty recently completed the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in Practice short course, facilitated by CTE instructional designer Mitchell Dallas Herring. This six-week, asynchronous course supports faculty in developing a critical framework for (re)designing curriculum that reflects UDL principles and improves accessibility for all learners.
Participants engaged in reflective practice, peer discussion, and practical application of UDL principles. Through regular participation and collaboration with colleagues, they explored how to:
- Define and meet course accessibility requirements
- Design engagement strategies that reach diverse learners
- Evaluate course materials for inclusive representation
- Differentiate learning activities and assessments
- Create an actionable framework to guide future course development
Grounded in a Critical Friends model, the course emphasized shared expertise and context-specific solutions. Faculty analyzed their instructional practices and created a peer-reviewed framework to guide future curriculum decisions.
