The University of South Carolina continues to modernize its digital learning environment with the implementation of the Ellucian Intelligent Learning Platform (ILP), a new integration between Banner and Blackboard that streamlines course, enrollment, and user management.
Since its launch in February 2026, ILP has significantly improved how data flows between Banner and Blackboard. Course information, enrollments, and faculty assignments now synchronize almost immediately rather than through overnight updates, resulting in greater data accuracy, faster course access, and fewer enrollment-related issues. While some course-related issues are still being addressed, ILP, combined with Blackboard Ultra Course View, will help reduce administrative overhead for faculty.
Beginning in Fall 2026, ILP will also support secure final grade pass-back from Blackboard Ultra to Banner, eliminating the need for dual grade entry.
As part of the transition to ILP, several processes have changed. Effective Summer 2026, eLearning Services no longer performs course merges. Instructors who wish to combine course sections should work with their Academic Unit Schedule Coordinator to submit an elective cross-list request through the Registrar's Office. Once approved in Banner, the combined course will be created automatically in Blackboard. Faculty are encouraged to submit requests as early as possible, ideally before adding course content or before students begin submitting work. In addition, instructors can no longer add or remove users directly in Blackboard courses. Enrollment changes must be requested through eLearning Services.
Additional changes include updated course naming conventions, new combined course identifiers, revised instructor enrollment procedures, and automated course availability dates that align with Banner start and end dates.
