Educators across USC are expanding their use of generative artificial intelligence to support teaching and learning. On April 13, 83 educators from across disciplines gathered for the 2nd annual Generative Artificial Intelligence Showcase to explore how these tools can strengthen course design, student engagement, and instructional efficiency.
Post-event feedback indicated a clear impact on understanding and application. Respondents reported increased awareness of instructional strategies and identified ways to incorporate these tools into their courses. “I will continue integrating GenAI tools in my courses,” one attendee noted.
The program featured presentations and audience Q&A, along with interactive polls and a hands-on session, ChatGPT EDU in Action, led by AI Educators from the Division of Information Technology. Attendees highlighted takeaways such as using AI for mock interviews, grading, and content analysis, and noted the value of practical examples that could be applied directly to their teaching. The showcase also included examples from the Provost’s AI Teaching Fellowship.
Attendees described plans to integrate AI into assignments, course activities, and instructional workflows, including redesigning assignments and developing course policies. Others emphasized intentional use, such as designing assignments that highlight both the strengths and limitations of these tools.
Attendees also identified career-focused applications, including resume and cover letter preparation, as well as plans to build custom tools and integrate platforms like NotebookLM. Many noted ways these tools can improve efficiency, including grading and assignment development.
The showcase reflects a broader shift in how teaching is evolving with emerging technologies. One attendee shared, “When GenAI is integrated into education, it can support personalized tutoring, assist instructors, help create lesson plans, enhance student learning outcomes, and improve accessibility for diverse learners.”
The event is part of broader efforts to support the integration of generative artificial intelligence into teaching through workshops, courses, and collaborative learning opportunities.
