Teaching Tune-Up

Program Details

Teaching Tune-up will provide opportunities for faculty members to:

  1. Enhance the skills necessary for effective teaching with a diverse population of students.  Skills include broadening the knowledge and implementation of new teaching methods and enhancement of skills in the use of current educational technologies.
  2. Continue learning from and reflecting on their experiences as teachers, including how to monitor and assess one’s effectiveness and adapt their teaching methods to a particular class or teaching situation.
  3. Support, evaluate, and assist other colleagues’ teaching to foster conversations about teaching and learning and create a community of shared best practices.
  4. Receive constructive, guiding feedback on their teaching performance.

Participants are expected to participate in the following activities:

  1. Attend Teaching Tune-up Orientation session
  2. Submit statement of teaching philosophy
  3. Attend at least three CTE training sessions
  4. Provide peer review of two TTU faculty
  5. Allow TTU faculty to conduct two peer reviews of their teaching
  6. Submit revised statement of teaching philosophy

Upon completion of the program, TTU faculty will be awarded a $500 stipend that they can apply towards travel, equipment or other approved purchases. 

Deans, directors, and department chairs can nominate one faculty member from their units, providing the following information:

  • Name
  • Title and rank
  • Department
  • Number of years at USC
  • Number of classes taught per year
  • Approximate number of students taught per year
  • Brief statement of why this faculty member will benefit from the TTU (500 words max.)
