Purpose
This guide emphasizes how online teaching practices are implemented in Blackboard and related platforms. It complements the Quality Standards for Online Courses (QSOC), which evaluates design, and aligns with the university’s Core Principles of Quality Teaching, the Critical Teaching Behaviors framework, and the Student Experience Project (SEP).
Areas of focus include:
- Instructor presence and communication
- Clarity and support for learning
- Student engagement and interaction
- Feedback on student progress
When to Use
- During an active term: Ideally after the first few weeks, when communication, engagement, and feedback patterns are visible.
- Mid-course: Allows time for adjustments to teaching practices.
- End-of-course: Provides a full picture of delivery.
