Frequently Asked Questions

You might be looking for more information about campus dining this semester. Here we address some of your most common questions.

Fresh Lane in the Russell House offers a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, which can be purchased for a meal plan swipe. Fresh whole fruit is also available daily in all three residential dining halls and several retail locations. Horseshoe Deli and Southern Kitchen also have fresh whole fruit as a side option with meal plan combos, and Congaree River Smokehouse has a fresh fruit salad available as a side option.

These are common and our team is trained to serve guests with certain special dietary needs. They receive intensive training from our registered dietitian and executive chef on the safety measures required to eliminate cross-contact or other exposure to potential allergens. Students with special dietary needs should register with the Student Disabilities Resource Center, schedule a conversation with Carolina Food Co. Registered Dietitian, and always let our associates know about restrictions so we can serve you safely.

Grubhub charges a $0.59 service when ordering through the app. This fee was waived by Grubhub during the fall semester due to COVID-19, but it was reinstated by Grubhub in January 2021. This is not a fee charged or received by Carolina Food Co.

Wait times reflect the busyness of the kitchen, so a longer wait time could be due to a sudden rush of orders. To help reduce wait times and provide another option for guests near 650 Lincoln, we opened another Horseshoe Deli location where Starbucks at Community Table used to be. We will also have The Coop food truck parked at 650 Lincoln on Sunday nights.

Our reusable to-go container program is available in residential dining halls to cut down on disposable paper waste. The program is open to all guests for a one-time fee of $5. This gains access to unlimited uses of the reusable containers and drastically reduces the amount of waste generated on campus. Disposable to-go containers are still available to guests at no charge.

Einstein Bros. at Humanities will be closed for the remainder of the spring semester due to reduced foot traffic and meal plan participation. Colloquium Café, Starbucks Welsh and Tea Leaves in Close-Hipp are all open and within a two-minute walk of Einstein Bros.

Our team always has managers on duty, including nights and weekends, to support our staff and make sure guests have a great experience. We regularly adjust the amount of food we prepare, double check portion sizes, audit our practices, and review feedback from our guests to ensure we are performing at our best.
