Division of IT Launches AI Initiative with Microsoft 365 Copilot

Audience members use their laptops during a presentation about Microsoft 365 Copilot.

On September 13, the Division of IT officially launched its new artificial intelligence initiative with the kickoff of Microsoft 365 Copilot, a collaborative initiative aimed at increasing productivity across campus.

Over 50 faculty, staff and students will participate in the user group throughout the fall semester to discover how to use the new technology to streamline efficiency for administrative, educational and research purposes. Their vital feedback will be used to help improve the development of AI software and product licensing for future use at the University of South Carolina.

It is no secret that AI is changing how we work and educate, so as part of South Carolina’s flagship university, the Division of Information Technology is committed to embracing innovation as we adapt to the transformative power of AI. As part of the Microsoft 365 Copilot user group, participants will share their AI prompt ideas, gather feedback, and measure how the software has impacted their professional productivity.

AI is a fast-growing technology and there is much that remains unknown about its capabilities. As a result, this project also aims to educate and empower our campus about how to effectively utilize AI and incorporate the technology into their daily lives. By fostering a deeper understanding, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between the uncertainty of emerging technologies and their potential to enhance academic and professional success.

If you need any help with AI, the Division of Information Technology is here to help. You can enter a request for an AI Consultation by submitting a ticket.
