Bongiorno Presents Updated Phishing Response System

Security Analyst Rhaynie Bongiorno ‘25 presented her Phishing Bot 3.0 project, which works to enhance the university’s response to phishing scams.

What Is It

Phishing Bot 3.0 is an automated system designed to streamline how USC processes reported phishing emails.

The new phishing response system works in three key parts:

  • Captures phishing email data and sends alerts to cybersecurity team.
  • Analyzes suspicious email content and routes it to USC’s internal workflow tool.
  • Supports the system with secure storage and automated computing.

Why It Matters

By automating how reported scams are processed, Phishing Bot 3.0 helps the Division of IT:

  • Respond to phishing threats faster;
  • Reduce manual workload;
  • And, protect students, faculty and staff from data breaches.

How to Report Phishing Scams

Students, faculty and staff can help protect the USC community by forwarding suspicious emails to phishing@sc.edu or by clicking on the “Report Phishing” option in Microsoft Outlook.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
