Identity and Access Management Project (IAM)

In conjunction with the launch of the new HR/Payroll System, a new centralized Account Management System for both employees and students will be introduced. By visiting myaccount.sc.edu, anyone associated with the university will be able to manage passwords, update Carolina Alert information, register/change multifactor authentication information and more. Any time after April 1, employees and students must visit myaccount.sc.edu in order to select their preferred university email address and set their personal email address.

General Frequently Asked Questions

The service will be available on April 1, 2019, and coincide with the launch of the university's HR/Payroll project.

All students, faculty, and staff will have one primary university-issued email address and one personal email address.

  • University-issued email address - This address will be used to communicate all official university business and to login to Office 365 services offered by the university. Note: Existing forwarding rules will not change.
  • Personal email address - This address will be used to communicate with people that are not yet officially associated with the university (ex. pre-hire employees or student applicants). It will also be used by the Account Management service (myaccount.sc.edu)

Email addresses assigned prior to April 1, 2019 will be grandfathered into the new system and will serve as the official university email address.  If you have more than one university email address (such as an @sc.edu alias and an @mailbox.sc.edu address), you will be required to select ONE address as your preferred email. A list of valid email domains that will be transferred can be found in the Email Domain Standard & Registry policy [pdf]. Any forwarding rules you previously setup will not change.

Individuals that have more than one valid university email address according to the Email Domain Standard & Registry policy [pdf] will be given the opportunity to select the email address they would like to be the official one.  There can be only one official university email address.

Example: if a person has an @moore.sc.edu and an @mailbox.sc.edu address, they must choose which one will serve as the official university email address. Emails sent/received to either address will still be delivered, but only one address will be used to login to university Office 365 services.

Nothing will change on my.sc.edu as a result of the implementation of myaccount.sc.edu. However, the URLs for some of the links will change in order to appropriately direct the user to manage their account through the new Account Management System.

The following table outlines the email domains that will be assigned to individuals that join the UofSC system after April 1, 2019:
